Summer Youth Volunteer Program

Holton Community Hospital will be offering local youth the opportunity to volunteer this summer to gain knowledge and insight to healthcare careers. Youth will be asked to volunteer for 4 hours a week in one of the departments listed below. To apply for the program, you just need to complete the Youth Volunteer Application, get 2 Reference Checks completed and return both the application & reference check forms to our Volunteer Director. Application deadline is May 15th, 2021.

Departments sponsoring student Volunteers

Acute Nursing
Careers in this department include: Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Nurse Aide
Duties will include: Interaction with patients (i.e. providing warm blankets, fresh water), social activities with patients, checking supply outdates, assisting nursing staff.

Surgical & Specialty Clinic Services
Careers in this department include: Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Surgical Technologist, Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Physician
Duties will include: Interaction with patients, assisting staff, observing surgeries, interacting with many different specialties including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Urology, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Dermatology, ENT and General Surgery.

Radiology
Careers in this department include: Radiology Technologist, Ultrasound Technologist, Mammographer, CT Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Radiologist.
Duties will include: Learning Radiology by observing each field, assist Rad Tech's with patients, cleaning and stocking rooms.

Rehabilitation Services
Careers in this department include: Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Duties will include: Changing exam bed linens, general department duties, cleaning, stocking and observation of clinical staff.

Laboratory
Careers in this department include: Medical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist), Phlebotomy
Duties will include: Assist lab staff in phlebotomy area, answer phones/take messages, sort/distribute mail (tests results), greet patients in waiting area, stock supplies, clerical tasks, basic computer tasks.

Cardiovascular Services
Careers in this department include: Registered Nurse and Cardiologist.
Duties will include: Interact with patients during their treatment, transporting patients, general department duties, cleaning equipment, stocking and observation of clinical staff.

Safety & Infection Control
Career in this department include: Registered Nurse, Emergency Management
Duties will include: Screening hospital patients & visitors, Filing, Data Entry, learning Infection Control Practices.
