Little Joel wanted to be just like his uncle. Joel loved to hear about his uncle's adventures as a pilot, and often pretended he was soaring through the sky as the pilot of his own jet plane. This love for flying as a boy led Joel to serve our country as a pilot in the United States Air Force. As a pilot, Joel knew that great precision and care was needed to ensure the safety of his aircraft and other crew members.

Today, Joel Hutchins, M.D., uses those same principles, precision and care, as he pilots his patients' health and wellness. For more than 20 years, Dr. Hutchins has served the families of Holton at Family Practice Associates. When asked what he enjoys the most about his career as a family practice physician, Joel said, "I just like working with people. It's that simple. I enjoy helping people and meeting with patients on a daily basis."

A graduate of The University of Kansas and The University of Kansas School of Medicine, Joel came to Holton immediately following his residency. He and his wife Becky have been life long residents of Jackson County and raised their two daughters, Jenny and Emily, in Holton.

In his spare time, Dr. Hutchins enjoys collecting art and reading. He and Becky are "history buffs" and serve as caretakers of the Denison Historical Society and are active with the Holton Historical Society. He is a member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton and is active in the Optimist Club. He also enjoys spending time with his daughters, their husbands and his two adorable grandchildren.
